Aladdin

Aladdin at Manchester Opera House

Why see Aladdin?

ROLL OUT THE MAGIC CARPET...

Everyone's favourite street scamp Aladdin heads to the Manchester Opera House once again this Christmas for a pantomime extravaganza. Starring vocal powerhouse Alexandra Burke, Ceri Dupree, Ben Nickless and Matthew Croke! Don't miss this impressive telling of the classic (and hilarious) tale, with stunning sets, song and dance numbers, a live band, and of course, a lamp-load of audience participation!

Wait, what happens in Aladdin?

Aladdin and his mum, the larger-than-life laundress Widow Twanky, live in poverty, not helped by Aladdin's work-shy attitude to the daily grind. When nefarious local villain Abanazar offers the lad a magic ring in return for a favour, he accepts, excited for an adventure. Heading into the spooky Cave of Wonders to collect a lamp for Abanazar, he soon realises that perhaps his benefactor's motives are a bit evil. Trapped in the cave, he rubs his hands together in frustration, inadvertently summoning the inhabitant inside his ring, only a ruddy Genie! Now granted three wishes, can Aladdin escape the cave and get his revenge on Abanazar? What about that Princess Jasmine he wants to get off with? Head on down to find out!

Brilliant in parts

If I were to through any doubts about giving this a 5 out of 5 it could be because Aladdin the character himself did not really suit. Very quiet for the character also The Prince as bordering on armature, jasmine did not look right in her gear, not sure what was missing but it looked out of context, also the song on the flying carpet was so low key! Yet that's a big song so that was a disappointment. Apart from all of the the star of the show was the Genie himself! Without him the show would not of been brilliant! Take him out and you have no show. Not to sure who the director was but characters not 100% but still a brilliant show, thought the finale was low key as well. ... Read more
